White-Tail Hunts - Wounded Deer Policy in Place
If a hunter wounds a deer he will refrain from hunting the day the deer is wounded and all of the following day so that we have time to try to get the deer . If at the end of the 2nd day recovery looks unlikely the hunter will continue hunting after resighting his rifle. If a 2nd deer is wounded or harvested a $500 trophy is payable immediately. If however at the end of the second day there is still a blood trail and still hope of recovery the hunter will refrain from hunting until such time that either
A) the deer is recovered or
B) recovery looks unlikely.
If a hunter has already consumed 2 fresh stands he will likely complete his hunt from one of the previously hunted stands.
In the past we have put hunters back on stand too soon and by the time they had shot another deer we found the wounded one. This is a messy affair involving conservation officers so we do not rush this anymore.
